Big Brothers Big Sisters

Biotech is proud to renew our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monmouth & Middlesex Counties and Freehold Borough School District to create a High School Bigs Mentoring Program for the 2015-16 school year!

The Mission of BBBS is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. You have a big opportunity in front of you, not only impact a child’s life today, but to transform their potential for tomorrow.

Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister is a significant responsibility. All Biotech Big Brothers and Sisters must make a commitment to meet with their Little Brothers and Sisters every other Thursday, for the entire school year, from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm at the Freehold Intermediate School.

Important Details:

• There will be an Information Session in Room 102 at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 24 for anyone that would like to learn more about this opportunity.
• Applications are due in Mr. Brown's mailbox by 7:30 am on Monday, September 28. Click here to download the application (paper copies are available in the main office)
• Applicants will be interviewed during the school day on either Wednesday, September 30 or Thursday, October 1
• There will be a Mentor Training for all of the High School Bigs on Thursday, October 8 in the Reading Room from 2:15 pm to 3:30 pm.

Students of Service (SOS) 2015-16 Leadership

2015-16 Club Leadership Opportunities

Students of Service Overview
Students of Service (SOS) is Biotech’s umbrella organization for student-driven service initiatives in our school, local, national and global communities. Service hours obtained through SOS projects and activities can be counted towards fulfilling National Honor Society (NHS) requirements as a freshman/sophomore and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) requirements as a junior/senior.

Club Structure
SOS has two levels of leadership - Officers and Project Leaders.

• Officers - Are involved in the management of the club.
• Project Leaders - Are involved in the implementation of specific service initiatives

SOS is currently accepting applications for officer positions (through June 5) and proposals for service projects (through June 30). Students are welcome to apply for an officer position AND submit a service project proposal. You are not limited to just one of these options.

Mr. Brown will be available first half of lunch on Friday 5/29 in the Guidance Office if you would like to discuss your potential involvement in SOS.

Jersey Cares Day

About the 17th Annual Jersey Cares Day
Jersey Cares Day is a day of true partnership and community building as 2,500 volunteers from all over New Jersey unite for the common goal of revitalizing and beautifying communities in New Jersey. Jersey Cares Day is also a fundraiser to support the important work of Jersey Cares all throughout the year. Like a walk-a-thon, Jersey Cares Day volunteers raise pledges for the time they are contributing, making the event an inspiring way to build stronger communities and help continue that work all year round.

Event Details
Jersey Cares Day will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015

• All volunteers will report directly to their sites for registration 
• Project times and site size vary and are posted online 
• Volunteers should wear clothes they feel comfortable getting dirty 
• All projects will be held rain or shine. 
• Please check the Jersey Cares Day website in the event of inclement weather 
• Volunteers ages 4+ are welcome to participate at select sites. 
• Sites have varying age limits - please check before registering. 
• Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a youth waiver signed by their parent or guardian in order to participate.

Volunteer Projects
There are over 37 projects taking place across 11 New Jersey counties. Some volunteer activities will include:

• Painting inspirational murals (murals will be sketched in advance) and brightening walls with fresh coats of paint 
• Transforming urban school playgrounds with line games and interactive maps of the United States
• Harvesting produce and crops for local food banks Performing general landscaping to public parks and beaches 
• Organizing clothing and food donations

Monmouth County Projects:

• Painting Playful Playgrounds in Asbury Park
• Beach Sweep in Sandy Hook
• Deal or No Deal Lake
